Growing up, my brothers & I always went to the dentist together. We'd be in the playroom after our appointments and as soon as one of us walked in we'd all ask "Cavity club?!". Flash forward 20 years and I still get super excited to tell someone "No cavity club!".
Ever meet someone and wished you had said something? Sophie Blackall has been trying to re-connect those people through her Missed Connections blog, kind of like a modern day Sleepless in Seattle. She illustrates Missed Connections found on websites. Her illustrations are amazing, you might recognize her work from the newest NYC subway illustration . Anyways, check out her amazing blog - who knows maybe one is about you :)
If you exchange gifts with a friend frequently (holidays/birthdays), you'll find it gets tricky sometimes. You need to remember what you got them last and what they got you - what's going on in their life, what they recently bought, what they need, etc. It's a tedious (but fun!) task.
A few months before Christmas, I saw these gorgeous Chevron drawer liners from Hammocks & High Teas. I knew as soon as I laid eyes on them, they'd be perfect for my friend Melissa. She just recently moved, loves gold, & probably wouldn't buy them for herself. I paired it with a super cute Anthropologie candle (also white & gold) and was very eager for her to open it. Christmas came and not only did she love it, but Melissa had picked out the same exact drawer liners for me! I've really never had that happen to me, but was so happy because you usually end up really liking what you gift. Plus she paired it with some gorgeous Rifle Paper Co. Cards & stationary.
Anyways, I've been meaning to share these gorgeous liners with you for awhile! Unfortunately, the Gold chevron liners are sold out - but they now offer them in Silver & Pink.
I came across these Pocket People on Etsy and literally laughed out loud at the descriptions. Handmade by Nicola Rowlands, each one of these little people has a personality of their own. Take Craig for example:
"Craig cooks a killer spaghetti bolognese and has hairy feet. Very good at hugging. Favours a hunting sock and a goosedown vest in a pocket-sized format for portability (and even sharing.)"
Perfect gift for: A friend in a new city or someone who's travelling.
Top on my Resolution list is to finally get glasses. I've had a prescription lying around, but just haven't decided to go an pick out a pair at Warby Parker. I'm determined to make an appointment today!
chinese gift exchange / white elephant exchange @ 9:51 AM
This year we threw a Chinese / White Elephant gift exchange with friends. The spending limit was $15 and it turned out to be a lot of fun! Tim luckily picked the very last number and I picked the 2nd to last number - I swear it was not rigged!. He ended up stealing some Stumptown coffee & a coffee mug and I stole 15 lottery tickets, which won me $27!
Here's some more examples of the gifts in case you need to throw a gift together last minute (like we all did):
An art school in Detroit, College for Creative Studies, launched these ads to get parents & students to consider a BFA or MFA. These made me laugh out loud, plus it's nice to see support for creativity/arts.
With everyone gearing up for the holidays, you're bound to get invited to an ugly Christmas sweater party. Although there are many options, I loved these Deer Ugly Christmas Sweater tees from Vardagen. They're festive but they're also cute!
I immediately fell in love with Fifi Lapin. Fifi is by far the most fashionable bunny I've seen. Keep track of Fifi's outfits via the blog & if you are interested in purchasing anything from the shop - be sure to place your orders before Dec. 1st!
P.S. would make a perfect gift for a baby girl's room or a fashionable friend*
Know someone that is not so computer savvy and could use a little simplicity in their life? Set them up an internet buttons page, it's free and it will make their life (and your life) a little bit easier.
The ridiculous baby body t-shirts from the Evian commericals can now be purchased! I've even seen a few people walking around wearing them. Could make a funny last minute Halloween costume too!
If only I were six years old! I came across Cool Spaces for Kids on Etsy yesterday and just had to share. Love this idea for a birthday party or just a random Saturday morning! Check out their Doorway Puppet Theatre too!
